Open Space/CCDS Fellowships
dynamic, energetic and resourceful individuals committed to building a more
equitable, sustainable world. *About the fellowship* The OS Fellowships are full-time, 12-month fellowships carrying a monthly
honorarium of Rs. 20,000, which is expected to cover all the costs of the
proposed project as well as provide a small honorarium to the fellows in
the course of the fellowship. The fellowships are to be awarded to individuals in three different
cities *excluding
Pune*. Over the last six years, the Open Space outreach process has also been
introduced by Open Space Fellows in different cities including Kolkata,
Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mumbai. In Mumbai, for example, our Fellow is
exploring through interviews, photography and discussion forums what it
means for young people to be excluded from the mainstream because they do
not conform to normative ideas of beauty and acceptability. In Ahmedabad,
our Fellow is training diverse groups of young people to make short video
films that address communalism, disseminating these films through social
media networks. Fellowships that employ (and result in) creative media
including publications, web archives, fiction, poetry, films, etc. are
ideal. *We would be very interested in applications that aim to build discourse on
youth and social responsibility by documenting the lives and work of young
social entrepreneurs in India on audio, video, in articles and photographs.* *The Applicant*
We are looking for individuals below 40 years with excellence in
communications, teamwork and capacity-building. Candidates must be
well-networked with NGOs, CSOs, educational institutions and community
groups in their own city, which will help them take their project forward. Applicants are invited to send in their CVs and a detailed proposal
(500-1000 words) on their proposed idea(s) for the OS Fellowship. The
proposal should substantiate the relevance of the idea/process proposed,
and detail strategies they would employ to see their project to completion,
including likely partners and networks in their cities. *Please email your applications to **fellowships@openspaceindia.org by
February 15, 2012.* ** *
* ** *About Open Space* ** *Open Space is the youth outreach initiative of the Centre for
Communication and Development Studies (CCDS), based in Pune, which
encourages youth in urban India to engage with issues related to pluralism,
social inclusion, accountable governance and sustainable development.* *Central to the Open Space outreach process is the use of cultural
expression and the arts to introduce complex ideas related to gender,
sexuality, identity, intercultural dialogue, globalization, peace and
development through film screenings, theatre, literature, music, workshops,
festivals and campaigns. These strategies have made the Open Space process
a unique and very creative way to expose young people to fresh and diverse
perspectives, encourage them to articulate their concerns and work towards
social change with some of India’s leading opinion-makers, cultural
activists and social entrepreneurs.* *The Centre for Communication and Development Studies (CCDS)* is a social
change resource centre working at the grassroots level to strengthen civil
society and citizens’ action for social justice, human rights, sustainable
development and accountable governance.
CCDS’s primary mandate is to empower civil society with information,
analysis, diverse perspectives and alternative messages, enabling citizens
to: 1) assert, exercise and claim their rights, 2) participate in
meaningful discussion and citizens’ action, and 3) advocate change in
public policy and social attitudes. The core competence of CCDS is the use of innovative communication
strategies and media advocacy to influence public policies and societal
attitudes. Our civil society discussion forums, the Open Space civil
society and youth outreach programme, our online resource base on social
justice and development issues www.infochangeindia.org, the quarterly
journal InfoChange Agenda, and a number of other action-research works and
publications play a crucial role in advocating issues related to
sustainable development, governance, human rights and social justice at the
national and international levels. For more information on CCDS and Open Space log on to www.openspaceindia.org

Greetings from CSO Partners!
We are delighted to announce that nominations for the CSO Partners’ Outstanding Annual Report Awards 2012 are now open!
Organized in collaboration with Financial Management Service Foundation (FMSF), this initiative is a call for the voluntary sector to showcase their Annual Reports: the most important tool for demonstrating your work, best practices, accountability towards their stakeholders, and transparent processes.
We invite organizations from the voluntary sector to submit your entries and participate in our endeavor to promote quality annual reports as a tool for building credibility. The Award is open to organizations registered as – Society, Trust or Section 25 company. Nominations will be divided into Small, Medium, and Large categories based on the Annual Budgets of the organizations.
Entries adjudged winners shall receive cash prizes of Rs 3,00,000/- (Winners) and Rs 1,00,000/- (Runners Up) per category!
To partake in the esteemed CSO Partners’ Annual Report Awards 2012, all you have to do is send us the following documents:
1. 3 hard copies of your Annual Reports for the year 2010-2011
2. 1 copy of your complete audited financial statement
3. Completed Nomination Form (Page 4 of Brochure attached with this email)
The last date for entries is 16th January, 2012, so hurry! Detailed information on this initiative is available in the Brochure (attached with this email) and on our website: www.annualreportawards.org .
Some useful tips to help strengthen your nomination:
1. If your NGO prepares an Annual Report in an additional language other than English, make sure to send us a copy of that too.
2. If your organization prepares only web based Annual Reports, send us 3 printed copies and do not forget to mention the web link to your annual report.
3. The financial report you send us must include both the Auditor’s Report and Notes to Accounts.
4. All schedules forming part of the Financial Statement must be included in your nomination.
5. Signature of chief functionary of the organization must be affixed on the financial statement
5. Make sure there is no overwriting on the copy of financial statement and the signature on the statements is the original one. The photocopy of financial statement should not be further signed by any of the signatories.
7. Auditors must sign the audit report only as a member / partner of the firm they represent, as opposed to signing the report with the firm name.
To further help your nomination stand in good stead, go through the Feedback Document (http://annualreportawards.org/feedback11.pdf) which contains guidance on strengthening NGO’s Annual Reports.
To reach out to a larger number of NGOs in this movement towards greater transparency & accountability, we request you to circulate information about this initiative amongst your partner networks.
